Examples of academic dishonesty

Academic dishonesty may be defined as “any type of cheating that occurs in relation to a formal academic exercise” (“Academic Dishonesty,” n.d.).
It’s important to understand what constitutes academic dishonesty and what is considered unacceptable behaviour in terms of your academic work.
At university it’s unacceptable to:
  • Present another person’s work as your own
  • Provide other students with your work
  • Make false claims (e.g. making up data)
  • Engage in unacceptable group work or collaboration
  • Get or give more help than you are allowed
  • Cheat during an examination
Some of the examples above may be new to you.
