For many of us, it is hard to imagine a world without search engines.
Search engines help you to identify information online. With the help of complex algorithms, they provide you with a list of different sources from across the web, chosen by the key words that you have used. The resulting sources will be ordered by the search engine based on the key words from your ‘query’.
Consider the way that you usually find information online and complete this short poll to identify which search engine you use most often. If your search engine is not on this list, please share it in the comments section.
As you can see from the poll results, there are a number of search engines that are used internationally. All of these search engines have different features and strengths, and it is often beneficial to use different search engines for different purposes. We have included some examples of different search engines in the ‘See also’ section below. Spend some time familiarising yourself with these different search engines.
